MERSING - Johor hopes Budget 2023, to be unveiled this Friday, will focus on youth empowerment and sports development in addition to being holistic, to benefit some 2.2 million youth in the state.

State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Human Resources Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said greater allocations for youth development and sports in the state will also mean that young people are not marginalised.

"I am waiting for a hint (on this) from the central government as we know that half of the people of Johor are young people and certainly their voices need to be raised and heard, that is it cannot be ignored.

"We are waiting.. and I have already mentioned to the Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu for allocation for youth and sports in Johor to be increased for next year," he said after officiating the Mersing Fun Run organised by Ikatan Anak Mersing (IAM) at Dataran Mahkota here today.

Regarding the Mersing Fun Run with the theme of 'edu-tourism', Mohd Hairi suggested that it could be continued in addition to being an annual event for this district which has various famous tourist destinations. - BERNAMA
