SHAH ALAM - Several flood mitigation projects have been ongoing in flood-prone areas in Selangor, state executive council Ganabatirau Veraman, but there has been delays in some of the projects.

He has requested the reparation of water canals, pumphouses and the clean-up of several drainages to improve water flow in Kampung Bukit Lanchong, here.

As for Lanchong Jaya and Alam Minda in Section 28, Shah Alam, he said the water canals have been repaired but the drainage system has not been cleared adequately, with stagnant water flow.

“And also the pumphouse hasn't been fixed yet by the Irrigation and Drainage department (JPS),” he told Sinar Daily's Politically Frank interview.

In Taman Sri Muda, he said the water canals have been repaired but they are now currently building a pumphouse and a tidal gate will be completed in 2023.

He also said that he had proposed to Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to turn three out of six football-sized fields in Taman Sri Muda into retention ponds.

“They are still looking into it but no reply from MBSA yet,” he said. For Desa Kemuning, he said there had been some progress in the projects but the tidal gate still needs fixing.

“If we don't fix the tidal gate along Sungai Aur, it will cause Klang river to overflow into Sungai Aur and the entire Jalan Bukit Kemuning will be flooded,” he said.

Despite all of these ongoing projects, he said JPS failed to complete some of its work, especially in the Jalan Bukit Kemuning area, an incomplete JPS project since the 10th Malaysia Plan (2011 to 2015).

“They kept on saying they will widen Jalan Bukit Kemuning and improve the drainage system but they stopped work at the 7th mile of Bukit Naga.

My constituency is in the eighth mile which they never touched for years.

“I believe the allocation has been given to JPS from the Federal government but they haven't done anything yet,” he said.

He also said that RM28 million have been allocated to widen several drains and to fix pumphouses.

However, he said that he has not seen any of such projects carried out. Not much work had also been done so far for the Klang river, he said.
