KUALA LUMPUR - The National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Aswara) aims to organise more international programmes after successfully hosting the Sarong Diplomacy programme from Oct 2 to 6 which gathered 26 participants from 10 Asean countries.

Aswara rector Prof Dr Ruslan Abdul Rahim said the programme which comprised a workshop and knowledge exchange on arts and culture has proven beneficial for its students as it also helped them to practise their soft skills as an added value before joining the industry.

"Aswara can also bring this very element (arts and culture) from Malaysia out to the world through performing arts and visual arts. We start with Asean first and slowly we’ll grow. There is so much more to go.

We got the European Union, Australia, the United States of America and others.

"Maybe we can spread the message of unity and peace in times like this where a part of the world is full of unrest and the like. So maybe we can send a positive message through arts,” he said after the closing ceremony of Asean Culture Project 2022: Sarong Diplomacy programme here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri in her closing speech said the programme was significant for the tourism industry as strategic cooperation networks played a significant role in enhancing Malaysia’s visibility.

"Through this programme, Malaysia and all Asean nations would be able to strengthen their bilateral ties and re-establish contact following the Covid-19 pandemic," she said. - BERNAMA
