SHAH ALAM - Despite ongoing political turmoil in the country, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali says his Perikatan Coalition is not intimidated by Umno to hold general elections (GE15) this year.

He said Perikatan Nasional (PN) will be participating in GE15 to continue their agenda of caring and raising the dignity of the people and the country.

“PN is ready to join GE15 with high enthusiasm to save the country and the people of Malaysia,” the Bersatu leader said.

He said the current political developments showed that Umno has failed to listen to the needs of the people and support them during the crucial economic recovery and challenging weather conditions.

In a Facebook post, he reminded the government to be proactive in efforts to deal with the possibility of major flooding by preparing essential assets, food aid and basic necessities, access to health services and post-flood assistance.

He also urged all Malaysians who were eligible to vote to come out en masse and fulfil their responsibilities as citizens for the future of the nation.

“The fact is, there are political parties that do not want to see a high turnout because a low turnout will give the party more chances to win.

“This is the real reason why GE15 is being held in a season of heavy rains and possible major floods,” he said.

He added that the tabling of Budget 2023 was in vain and a waste of time and energy of public service members who have worked hard to muster their thoughts and energy to prepare the budget.

“Our priority should be focused on helping the people overcome the current challenges and start a more secure life,” he said.

He also said that PN’s stance had been constant that their main agenda was to give full focus to enlighten and restore the national economy by providing financial assistance for small businesses to continue business activities, extending the moratorium for a more reasonable period, controlling inflation and continuing to create job opportunities.

In implementing that, he said the PN government had come up with an economic stimulus package worth of RM530 billion that benefitted all levels of society including small business owners, bachelors, employers, workers and industries.

Azmin also said that the country’s economic growth of 8.9 per cent in the second quarter of 2022 was attributed to the New Investment Policy that was approved by the PN government in April 2021 and the PN leadership has created over 300,000 job opportunities.

“This is the PN that focuses on restoring the economy of the people and the country,” he said.
