SHAH ALAM - Putrajaya's preparation to dispatch agencies like the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and the Fire Department (Bomba) to mitigate floods will not be enough.

In Sinar Daily's Politically Frank interview, Selangor assemblyman Ganabatirau Veraman said the government had been preparing Nadma and Bomba to help people because they realised they failed to act promptly during last year’s massive flood.

“That's why there were casualties and people were very angry,” he said.

He said even though the government had the armed forces (ATM) but immediate help was needed to rescue flood victims.

Due to that, an action plan to clean up Klang river was crucial.

“They need to do some progress work, come up with an action plan like whether they can clean or clear the Klang river,” he said.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has allocated RM10 billion for flood mitigation projects in Selangor alone but he has not seen any of the projects carried out yet.

GE15 during floods a mockery

When asked about his view on the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held during the monsoon season, he said doing so would be a mockery of the people’s suffering.

“We lost more than two dozen lives in Selangor alone during the previous massive flood.

“People’s sufferings should not be used as a way for us to gain power,” he said.

He also added that the ones who have been wanting to call for GE15 this year were just trying to topple the current prime minister.

“So, is this about caring for the people or grappling power?” he said.
