Saturday fiery crash: Lorry driver had no past records, tested negative for drugs

SENAI - The lorry driver who was arrested over the tragic accident of five vehicles at Kilometre 45.7 of the North-South Highway near Kulai, on Saturday, did not have any criminal records.

In fact, Kulai District Police Chief Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow said that the urine test of the 37-year old man from Shah Alam also showed that he was not under the influence of drugs at the time of accident.

"We have remanded the lorry driver for four days beginning yesterday (Monday).

"He has no previous criminal records and his urine test was negative, he however is still under police custody for further investigations," said Tok when contacted today.

The lorry driver was arrested on Sunday over suspicion of being the cause of the accident which resulted the death of individuals in the ensuing fiery crash.

For now only one of the victims was succesfully identified, a 28-year old woman named Nurul Nazihah Kamalul Arifin.

As for now, Tok said the other unidentified victim is believed to be a man based on a statement from the deceased's family member who came to identify him.

"Yesterday (Monday), a family came to the Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital to identify the body.

"The Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test were taken and the results will be known within two weeks," he said.

Nazihah's remains were put to rest at the Kampung Temenin Lama Islamic Cemetery, Kota Tinggi, at around 3.40pm on Sunday.
