BANGKOK - Thailand has stepped up screening of travellers arriving from African countries - especially Uganda - at Suvarnabhumi Airport following the latest Ebola outbreak, said acting director-general of Disease Control Department Dr. Tares Krassanairawiwong today.

"The entry screening for passengers is a precaution measure to prevent the arrival of the disease in Thailand," he said in a statement.

He said travellers from African countries in the past 21 days are required to undergo screening and register their arrival at the airports.

Ebola is spread through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected people and contaminated surfaces and materials. The symptoms include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, and internal and external bleeding.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the incubation period for the disease is from 2 to 21 days. A person infected with Ebola cannot spread the disease until they develop symptoms.

On Monday, Uganda's health ministry said there have been 90 confirmed cases overall, and 28 deaths. - BERNAMA
