Most voters want PH as ruling coalition - Survey

SHAH ALAM - The 15th General Election (GE15) known as the “mother of all elections” will be a tight race compared to the prior elections as more political parties and coalitions surface.

With the emergence of more political coalitions, the people now have more choices on who they preferred to rule the country.

According to a survey conducted by O2 Malaysia (O2) on a total of 1,105 respondents nationwide, as of Oct 10, the people seemed to have in mind a coalition of choice, one which was led by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The survey showed that a total of 40 per cent preferred Pakatan Harapan (PH) as the ruling coalition after the 15th General Election (GE15).

Meanwhile, only 27 per cent and 18 per cent of the respondents have expressed that they would vote for Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) respectively.

The party that respondents least preferred was Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) under the leadership of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad with one per cent while four per cent of the respondents expressed that they would choose Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).

From the survey, most of the Malay voters preferred BN, while 25.5 per cent wanted to vote for PH, PN (28.9 per cent), Muda (two per cent) and GTA (1.8 per cent).

Meanwhile, most of the Chinese voters wanted PH as the ruling coalition with 68 per cent, while 12.4 per cent have expressed that they would choose Muda, 8.4 per cent preferred BN and 1.8 per cent would vote for PN.

However, BN was leading in terms of all age groups.

A total of 31.4 per cent of those aged between 18 and 30, 35.2 per cent of those aged between 31 and 40 and 38.3 per cent aged 41 and above preferred BN as the ruling coalition.

As for PH, 30 per cent of the votes were expected from the respondents aged between 18 and 30, while 24.5 per cent and 30.5 per cent of the votes were expected to come from those aged between 31 and 40 as well as those aged 41 and above respectively.

Meanwhile, 20.7 per cent of the voters aged between 18 and 30 have expressed that they wanted PN to be the ruling coalition, followed by 30.1 per cent of those aged between 31 and 40 and 24.9 per cent of those aged 41 and above.

Apart from that, 4.3 per cent of the respondents aged between 18 and 30 wanted to see Muda as the governing party, followed by 1.5 per cent (aged 31 to 40) and 1.1 per cent (aged 41 and above).

Based in the survey, only 2.1 per cent of voters aged between 18 and 30 preferred GTA as the ruling coalition, followed by 1.5 per cent (aged 31 to 40) and 2.6 per cent of those aged 41 and above.

On Oct 20, The Election Commission (EC) announced that Malaysians will go to the polls for GE15 on Nov 19, with early voting set for Nov 15.

Its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh during a press conference announced that nominations will be on Nov 5.
