GEORGE TOWN - There are no untoward incidents or provocations by any political party supporters during the nomination process in 13 Penang parliamentary seats for the 15th general election (GE15) today.

State police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the police were satisfied with the candidate nomination process, and all candidates as well as their supporters cooperated and complied with police instructions.

"Today I inspected the candidate nomination process in Permatang Pauh and personally met the supporters of the political parties, who support the path of democracy in this country.

"No untoward incidents took place today and we urged all parties to assist the police by ensuring that this election runs smoothly," he said at a press conference at the Penang police contingent headquarters (IPK) here today.

He said a total of 1,997 police personnel were stationed at nomination centres to ensure the smooth conduct of the process, traffic control and security at the centres.

Mohd Shuhaily said so far, the police received only one report related to flag installation yesterday and that police had opened an enquiry paper on the matter.

"The case will be referred to the local authorities since it's under their jurisdiction,” he added.

In this regard, Mohd Shuhaily said candidates or their representatives were given briefings regarding security and regulations throughout GE15 today.

He said all district police chiefs are responsible for giving clear explanations on the dos and don’ts during this election, which includes an explanation of the latest regulation and the police requirement to ensure a safe situation for all parties.
