KUANTAN - Perikatan Nasional (PN) will immediately look for a new candidate for the Tioman state assembly seat to replace its candidate, Md Yunus Ramli who died on Saturday morning.
Pahang PN chairman Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said the news of the death had already been communicated to the top leadership of the PN.
"PN will put another candidate instead.
“Since the seat in question belongs to Pas, Pas will choose a candidate from their party.
"The election will be held as soon as possible, but not today because all parties are busy with the voting process," he said when met by reporters at the polling centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Talam here on Saturday.
Saifuddin had previously cast his vote at the school at 9.25am.
Earlier this morning, Rompin Parliament returning officer Datuk Ahmad Nasim Mohd Sidek postponed the voting process for the Tioman state assembly seat after Md Yunus died.
The postponement only involved the state assembly seat in question while the election for the Rompin Parliament constituency would be conducted as usual.
In the meantime, Saifuddin also expressed his sadness at the loss of the candidate and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
"We at PN were shocked after learning that one of our candidates died whilst everyone was preparing to vote.
"This is a loss for PN because he (the deceased) is a good candidate and has potential," he said.
Commenting further, Saifuddin who is the PN candidate for the Indera Mahkota Parliament said PN would wait for the next process from the Election Commission (EC).
"We are waiting for the decision from the EC on the new dates and what are the processes," he said.
