SHAH ALAM – Umno has appointed its Supreme Council member Isham Jalil as the party’s new information chief. This comes after Shahril Hamdan quit the post earlier today.
Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said Isham’s appointment took effect immediately.
Isham said he received the appointment by phonecall.
" I was informed by phonecall by the Deputy President of Umno Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Hasan and also the Secretary General of Umno Datuk Seri Ahmad bin Maslan.”
He explained that the decision was made following the resignation of Shahril Hamdan and discussions between the top leadership of the party.
Furthermore, Isham shared that an official letter had already been signed by the party leadership upon his appointment.
“I am grateful for this appointment and for the party's trust in me. I will hold this trust to the best of my ability,” he expressed his reaction upon receiving the position.
Ahmad Maslan also posted on his facebook page regarding Isham's appointment.
" I would like to confirm that according to Clause 9.6 of the Umno Constitution, Umno President Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi had appointed Isham Jalil as the new information chief today. Thank you for the service given Brother Shahril." Maslan wrote.
