Perak BN-PH cooperation a good start - Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR - The cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in Perak is a good start, says PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said that the cooperation between the two in the state showed that such a merger was possible.

“I appreciate the positive development in Perak as it shows that BN and PH are able to cooperate in forming a state government,” he said during a press conference at a hotel, here, today.

Pahang PH agreed to cooperate with the state BN to form the Pahang state government after the 15th general election (GE15) resulted in a hung assembly.

The Pahang state assembly was in a hung position when the results of GE15 saw no single party acquiring a simple majority to form the state government.

In GE15, BN obtained 16 seats while PH won eight with six from DAP while Perikatan Nasional obtained 17 seats.

There are 42 seats in Pahang state assembly nonetheless the polling process for the Tioman state seat will be held on Dec 7, Following the death of PN candidate, Md Yunus Ramli, 61, at 3.30 am on GE15 polling day

When asked if BN was the only one for the alliance, Anwar said "for main partner, yes".

Asked if it the alliance would include Sabah and Sarawak, he said yes but did not elaborate further.

Earlier today, BN and PH central leadership had a meeting to discuss the formation of a coalition post-GE15.

Also present at the press conference were DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president Datuk Seri Dr Wilfred Madius Tangau.
