SHAH ALAM - There is no clause or provision in the Umno Constitution that allows a president to be dismissed from office.

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), political analyst Professor Dr Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani said, the president's dismissal can only be done in two ways, namely an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) or by resignation.

According to him, there is no other way to make Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi resign as president.

"Ahmad Zahid will step down if he does not get the support of two-thirds of the representatives. So, this time in an (EGM) the representatives will have to fight and choose who deserves to lead the party.

"We would just have to wait for an EGM meeting," he told Sinar Harian on Monday.

Umno leaders have been urging Ahmad Zahid to resign as the party's president following Barisan Nasional's (BN) uninspiring performance in the 15th General Election (GE15). Among the leaders were the former Minister of National Unity, Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique; Umno youth vice chief, Shahril Sufian Hamdan; Director of Johor BN Election Operations, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi; Kulai BN deputy chairman, Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor and Umno Youth Exco, Datuk Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarruddin.

GE15 saw BN record its worst performance in a general election when it only won 30 parliamentary seats out of all the 178 seats contested by the coalition.
