SHAH ALAM – The selection of Cabinet members who are completely free of corruption, abuse of power and embezzlement issues must be the first thing done by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to realise his pledge.

Malaysia Anti-Corruption Foundation (YARM) president Mohd Nizam Mohd Isa said choosing a Cabinet with integrity should be Anwar’s priority to govern the country for the better.

He said the same consideration had to be made towards government-linked companies (GLC) and government departments.

“Anwar needs to clean up all GLCs and government departments from being led by those who had problems with integrity known by the people.

“All appointments for GLC leaders and local authorities must be changed. Appointments should consist of outsiders and not politicians.

“This would aid him in governing the country effectively,” he told Sinar on Thursday.

He commented on the matters that must be implemented by Anwar following the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman’s pledge to rid Malaysia of corruption.

Nizam further said in addition to clean the leadership from those who lacked integrity, Anwar was also advised to focus on boosting the economy of the small and medium economy sectors (SMEs) and rural industries.

“Anwar must ensure that the prices of basic goods could be lowered. He also needs to focus on opportunities towards learning skills,” he said.

He believed that Anwar was able to keep his promise to clean Malaysia from corruption based on such strong principles.

“It was an overwhelming feeling seeing the miracle (Anwar appointed as prime minister). He went through a very torturous process because of strong principles. He had chosen a difficult path over the easy one.

“I believe that he will become a good prime minister with his qualities and his background. Well done and congratulations,” he said.
