KUALA LUMPUR - TikTok will forge a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Digital Communications through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to immediately curb the spread of provocative and extremist content on social media.

Minister Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil said the commitment was conveyed by the application provider in a meeting with MCMC and the ministry this afternoon.

"As a result of this discussion, TikTok has expressed its desire and commitment to establish strategic cooperation with the ministry through MCMC to immediately curb and combat the spread of provocative and extremist content on social media that could disturb the harmony in the country.

"Insya-Allah, I will also hold several more series of discussions with other social media providers to ensure that this issue is tackled holistically and quickly," he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Fahmi said measures to combat the spread of provocative and sensitive content were brought up in the special cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya earlier today. - BERNAMA
