Malaysian motorcycle convoys to Thailand continue despite bombings

SHAH ALAM - TM Bikers Malaysia will continue their motorcycle convoy towards Thailand despite the recent bombing incident that happened in Sadao, Songkhla on Saturday.

Its secretary Mohd Rozaimi Arif Arshad said preparations were already made in terms of security to ensure the convoy's journey runs smoothly.

"Among the security measures we made before entering Thailand was to prepare compulsory motor insurance for each vehicle.

"Participants were also reminded not to gather in any locations considered as a redzone.We will ensure the hotel and routes we are going through are not listed under the redzone category like in southern Thailand where there was a recent bombing," he told Sinar on Wednesday.

Rozaimi said he had been on a convoy to Thailand before and was confident that their journey expected to be on Dec 27 will be safe and run smoothly..

"The trip would run smoothly and without any issues. The police and military are always patrolling the roads as per usual.

"We are only advised to be more careful on the roads and to constantly pay attention to our surroundings," he explained.

The media reported on Saturday that a freight train carrying rubber on its way from Hatyai to Padang Besar was derailed after the railway tracked was bombed.

On Tuesday, three State Railway of Thailand (SRT) employees were killed with four suffering injuries when another bomb exploded in the morning close to the scene of the first bombing incident at the railway track on Saturday in Sadao, Songkhla.

Gabungan Amal Uhkwah Silaturrahim (Gaus) president Rohaimi Mungin said that the groups who wanted to convoy to Thailand were advised to contact local residents for references and guides.

"To avoid any unwanted matters, we need have a person (contact) there meaning they would know where the safe areas would be because we don't have such knowledge.

"Most Malaysian bikers when they enter Thailand would not be disturbed by the locals because they want to respect us as long as we respect the rules in their area and are not breaking any laws," he said.
