Police will take care of flood victims' properties, says Saifuddin

PUTRAJAYA - Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution guarantees that the homes and belongings of flood victims are safe.

He stressed that the police have been instructed to monitor and patrol the areas where victims have temporarily evacuated.

"Victims don't have to worry about the safety of their homes and belongings," he said during a press conference after the launch of the Home Ministry's Flood Relief Mission to the East Coast, here, on Wednesday.

Aside from that, Saifuddin also assured that the application process for lost and damaged identity card (IC) and passports will be eased for flood victims.

"For now, our priorities now are to make sure that lives and belongings of the victims are protected. Once the flood has subsided, the ministry will expedite the process of obtaining lost and damaged documents for free," he added.

Also present were Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and senior ministry officers.

The Flood Relief Mission to the East Coast involved the cooperation of several agencies under the home ministry with Malaysian Food Bank Foundation.

A total of 1,000 boxes were distributed to two PPS that was Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Alor Pasir, Tanah Merah and SK Dewan Besar, Machang.

The food consisted of ready-to-eat food items such as cornflakes, biscuits, bread, sardines, mineral water, carton water, biscuits, coffee and such.
