TEMERLOH - A herd of elephants decided to pay a surprise visit to the Kemasul Forest Farm on Monday.

Resident Ahmad Najamudin Ahmad Shahar, 36, said he saw 15 of elephants wandering into the area in search of food.

His wife Wan Nur Afni Wan Rosli, 35, as well as several neighbours also claimed that they saw the herd coming out of the Kemasul Forest Reserve at 6.50pm.

"We saw the elephants move about for 20 minutes before retreating back into the Kemasul Forest Reserve, a single elephant with tusks was acting aggressively and attempted to attack us.

"This was the first time I saw a large number of wild elephants (15) it was as if we were at a zoo in a foreign country," Najamudin said.

He said the elephants once again wandered into the residential area at 10pm on the same day.

"There were several (elephants) in front of my house uprooting palm trees and bananas.

"Previously there were several elephant sightings at Kemasul Forest Reserve, but not as many as this " he elaborated

Another resident who wanted to be known as Nazri said the animals had wandered into different Kemasul Forest Reserve offices and residential areas at night, but it was different this time they were present in the evening.

" The gates were damaged as well as the tress that decorated the office areas.

"I understand that the Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) once captured and relocated several elephants in Kemasul Forest Reserve," he explained.

Nazri said the herd had wandered into the office grounds twice last year.

Perhilitan in a statement claimed there were at least 45 elephants in Kemasul Forest Reserve moving from one area to the next near the borders of the forest.
