KUALA LUMPUR - Federal Territories Umno has echoed the contention of its Johor counterpart in objecting a controversial motion to prevent the party from having a presidential election in the coming party poll.

Bukit Bintang Deputy Division Chief Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Mohd Rafique reiterated that the supplementary motion to propose for the president and deputy posts to not be opened for contest was “not right.”

“It was as Johor Umno had pointed out.

“We support every motion submitted except the supplementary motion,” said Zainal Abidin during his turn at the rostrum in today’s debate in the 2022 Umno General Assembly at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL).

Earlier, Johor Umno has revealed that the contentious supplementary motion – proposed by Negeri Sembilan Umno yesterday – was unconstitutional, citing Article 30 of Umno’s Constitution and Article 10 of the Assembly Orders.

According to the two articles, supplementary motions must be submitted not less than 14 days before the general assembly begins.
