Noh worried that voters will reject Umno candidates in state elections

SHAH ALAM - Former Selangor Umno Chairman, Tan Sri Noh Omar admitted that he was worried if voters would reject the party's candidates in the upcoming State Elections

He said this was due to the recent decision made at the 2022 Umno General Assembly (PAU) on Saturday for the top two posts of the party to remain uncontested.

"Now Umno will face the state elections in six states. The same reason is used which is to avoid division in the party.

"I am very worried that the voters in these six states will reject the candidates from Umno," he said in Facebook post on Tuesday.

Noh who is also a member of the Umno Supreme Council revealed that the reason he did not stand up to support the motion for the two main positions not to be contested was because he was worried that the move would have a negative impact on democracy in the party.

He said that the motion that was brought forth had not been discussed in the supreme council meeting.

"During the meeting, only seven motions were discussed and this did not include the motion for the party's top two posts to not be contested.

"What happened was that the motion was an additional motion and not a motion to amend the existing party constitution. Article 20 of the Umno Constitution refers to motions for amendments rather than additions.

"So the additional motion did not go through the supreme council meeting and I see that this contradicts the existing rules.

"If the motion is was discussed in the supreme council meeting prior to the additional motion I will support it.

"If Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi won without any position in the government, it is not impossible for him to win again as he is now a Deputy Prime Minister," Noh wrote
