Backpack Heroes organises donation programme, benefits 35 orphans

SHAH ALAM - Students from UiTM Shah Alam who goes by the name 'Backpack Heroes' organises a charity programme that benefits orphans from Rumah Penyayang Nur Iman, Setapak.

The programme was conducted by final-year students of the School of Communication and Media, College of Computing, Informatics and Media, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), led by project manager Syamimi Afiqah Suhami.

The charity programme comprised three events, Fundtasia Neon Run, Pasca Malam Neon and Tiny but Mighty, which were held to raise funds for the orphanage.

The events, which saw local Malaysian singers Aisha Retno and Orkes A Hizadin performed for the concert garnered over 350 participants.

Advisor of Backpack Heroes Nurul Atiqah Mohd Azlan said with the funds collected, Backpack Heroes was able to donate school supplies such as school uniforms, backpacks, stationeries, bottles, food containers, daily food supplies, snacks and religious books to the orphanage.

Cash donation amounting to RM5,300 was also given to the orphanage.

“The funds that we earned are shared through this donation of school supplies for the kids to make them happy and more motivated to go to school,” she said.

The residents of the orphanage were thrilled after a day of fun games and activities together with the committee of Backpack Heroes.

Anak Yatim Penyayang Nur Iman founder Sharimah Ali thanked Backpack Heroes for their willingness to participate in social service programme at the orphanage.

“Islam promotes togetherness, and I hope this programme will continue in the future to strengthen relationship between students and community,” he said.

The programme, which was conducted to enlighten the public about orphans’ rights to quality education, worked alongside Sinaran Mulia Logistic Sdn Bhd and sponsors including Emas Anuar Nilai, Mamee, McDonalds, KDEB Waste Management as well as Oh Media as an official media partner.
