All camping sites in S'gor must register with local council, says exco after Batang Kali tragedy

SHAH ALAM - Campsite operators in Selangor must register with local authorities from February to ensure the safety of visitors.

Selangor Local Government and Public Transport Exco Ng Sze Han said the operators must secure a Land Surveyor certificate.

He further said the matter was decided during a workshop between operators and local authorities.

"In order to ensure the safety of the public and operators, the state government and local authorities has requested all operators to register immediately," he said in a statement.

Ng said the registration process will be announced as soon as possible, adding that for a start they may be issued with a temporary Building Permit and Business Licenses to ensure safely.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was reportedsaying the guidelines on the rules and regulations of camping activities will be enforced to ensure safety.

The decision was made after the Batang Kali landslide tragedy that took 31 lives at Father's Organic Farm, Gohtong Jaya, Batang Kali, in December last year.
