SHAH ALAM - The Sinar Karangkraf x SyriaCare Relief Fund for Turkey & Syria managed to collect more than RM30,000 in less than 48 hours after its launch on Wednesday.

Sinar Karangkraf Group's Head of Marketing and Branding Nik Justin Nik Mohd Ariffin thanked Malaysians for their concern on the fate of earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

"The launch of this fund is in solidarity with the concern of the people of Malaysia for the disaster that hit the two countries. Alhamdulillah, more than RM30,000 was successfully collected in less than 48 hours after the Sinar Karangkraf x SyriaCare Relief Fund was launched on Wednesday.

"Support is not only (shown) among non-governmental organisations, but also corporate bodies and individuals," he said on Thursday.

Sinar Karangkraf launched the Sinar Karangkraf x SyriaCare Relief Fund to help the people of Turkey and Syria after the region was struck by a devastating earthquake last Monday.

The initiative involved Sinar Harian's strategic collaboration with Syria Care and the International Islamic University of Malaysia (UIAM) and aimed to raise funds of RM250,000.

According to Nik Justin, the collection runs from Feb 8 to 28 and after that, the aid will be sent in stages.

The fund's proceeds target four important usages including temporary housing assistance for displaced residents as well as food, medicine and winter equipment such as blankets, clothes and heaters.

He added that his team is currently putting together a strategy to improve the fund campaign so that the aid can be channeled immediately in stages to the victims of the earthquake in the two countries involved.
