KUALA LUMPUR - Bersatu Information Chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said the charges against him in court regarding the Jana Wibawa project should not have happened.

He claimed that such accusations were deliberately made to distract the public from the government's failure to manage the various issues affecting the people.

"Now we should focus on welfare and the situation that plagues the people, namely the cost of living and basic necessities where prices have soared.

"The same goes for the demand to release Employees Provident Fund (EPF) money in a targeted manner that is voiced by the people every day.

"But what happened was that such charges were created to divert attention from the government's failure," he said at a press conference after being brought before the Section Court here.

Wan Saiful, 48, believes that he can prove he is innocent of the charges made against him.

"I am confident in the court process. We will prove that no wrongdoing has been done," he said.
