Flood in Johor worsens, 15 relief centres submerged in flood waters

BATU PAHAT - The floods in Sri Gading, Parit Raja and Ayer Hitam have worsened and 15 relief centres (PPS) have been submerged in floodwaters.

Batu Pahat district officer, Nasri Md Ali said according to reports issued by the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) the floods are expected to get worse.

According to Nasri , based on the report, a high tide is expected to hit until this Sunday.

"A total of 1,000 victims who were in the flooded 15 relief centres were transferred to community colleges and residential colleges of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).

"There have never been a floods where the relief centres had to be closed. The state of the relief centres has impacted our disaster management at the district level because we need new evacuation locations immediately," he said.

He said so when met at the Kolej Kediaman Perwira of UTHM, Parit Sempadan Laut, Parit Raja on Thursday.

Nasri said currently there were 11 mosques and musollas in this district used as relief centres to accommodate flood victims.

"The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar has ordered that mosques and musollas in the district be made into relief centres.

"There are 11 mosques and suraus in this district approved by the Johor State Islamic Religious Department (Jainj) and approved by Sultan Ibrahim to be used as relief centres," he explained
