'MPs should confirm facts before raising issues in Parliament' - Salahuddin Ayub

SUBANG JAYA - Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub criticised Kuantan member of Parliament Wan Razali Wan Nor who claimed the Women's Day rally in Kuala Lumpur last Sunday was a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) parade.

Salahuddin stressed that as an MP, Wan Razali should confirm the facts first before issuing such statements especially in a Parliament session.

"Don't speak about it if you are not sure. This (Dewan Rakyat) is not a coffee shop. This is a Parliament. So you (representatives) need to be responsible for what you say.

"To all MPs, make sure the facts you are talking about is accurate. That's our ethics. If you are not sure then don't say it or you'll be embarrassed.

"My advice to the MPs, regardless of the government or the opposition, confirm your facts first and make sure it is correct. Don't make any accusations and allegations so carelessly. We need to be careful with the facts," he said.

He said this during a press conference after officiating the Raya Mydin Classic Campaign under the Payung Rahmah initiative at Pasar Raya Besar Mydin USJ today.

The allegations made by Wan Razali in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday caused an uproar after he claimed the rally as a LGBTQ parade.

However, after receiving criticism from other MPs, the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul insisted Wan Razali retract the statement since he was not sure of the facts.

The police are currently investigating the Women's Day rally and parade.

Commenting further, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said that Wan Razali should have not made the allegation because he wasn't sure about it.

"It was clear that he didn't know because when the Speaker asked him yesterday (Tuesday) he answered that he wasn't sure. If that's the case then don't say it," he said.
