KOTA BHARU - Bachok Umno is focusing on the upcoming election on Saturday even though there are issues regarding candidates and their eligibility to contest for the area's division chief.

Bachok Umno division chief Datuk Mohd Zain Yasim said the division respects and obeys all decision made by the 2023 Umno Selection Committee (JPU).

“I am not meddling in such matters as the focus currently is towards the upcoming election in two days.

“Only the JPU has the rights to decide for such matters,” he told Sinar on Thursday.

He said such following a viral complaint letter regarding candidate Datuk Yusri Che Noh contesting for the Bachok division chief but then claiming that he was a ‘lifetime’ Bersatu member.

The complaint was filed on March 13, but sources state the Umno division member was permitted to contest.

Zain who was defending the position hopes the election will consist of qualified members who can push Umno forward.

“Choose an individual of calibre to lead the party in facing the challenges for the next five years,” he said.
