SHAH ALAM - The Political Funding Act needs to be implemented immediately, especially ahead of state elections to ensure transparency and that every political party has accountability on its contributions and donations.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Organisation (Pakar) president Datuk Seri Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil said the act should be implemented as soon as possible as the anti-hopping act has been enforced.

"Both sides of the party, whether the government or the opposition, need to accept to ensure transparency.

"We are not restricting individuals or companies from donating to any political party, but with this act, it becomes more transparent, and any party is responsible for receiving donations or contributions," he said.

He said this during Wacana Sinar titled "Dana Politik: Derma dan Rasuah," broadcast live on all Sinar Harian digital platforms tonight.
