KUALA LUMPUR - The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will obtain the chicken supply data from the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (MAFS) in regards to the spike of chicken prices.

Its minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the increase in price may due to the shortage of supply.

"We will get a reponse from the Agriculture Ministry because the supply (of chicken) is their reponsibility.

"After we check the supply data facts, then we will look into the price.

"Even though the Department of Statistics Malaysia released the figures just yesterday, I still have to confirm it with the MAFS first," he said in a press conference after launching Hari Raya Sabella Rahmah Sale, here, today.

Salahuddin added that his ministry has no plans to increase the control price of chicken in the market.

On Friday, the media reported that the average price of chicken last month had increased to RM10.33 per kilogram (kg) compared to RM9.46 in February 2022 where both price exceeded the control price level set by the government which is RM9.40.
