SHAH ALAM - "I have no intention of causing commotion at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)," says Muda president Syed Saddiq.

However, he respected and understood UiTM’s decision not to allow students to be involved in the programme in which he would participate.

"UiTM stated they wanted to protect campus harmony and prioritise unified activities.

"However, I was invited to have a dialogue with students regarding issues closely related to them.

"The programme organisers have made an orderly application, but it was rejected," he said through a Facebook post on Friday.

His comments were in response to the Jelajah Mansuh Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU) 1971 and the dialogue on 'Interns Are Not Forced Labour' programme that was supposed to be held at Dataran Cendekiawan, UiTM, Shah Alam on March 30 at 10PM but did not receive approval.

Based on the letter from the UiTM Dean Associate Professor Dr Nor Hafizah Mohamed Harith which went viral on social media, all students were instructed not to be involved in the programme.

The Muar MP stated some individuals saying if it has become part of the government there should not be such confrontations.

"It's odd how even a dialogue could be classified as a confrontation; I don’t know what else could be done.

"When I was on the opposition bloc, I could enter Universiti Malaya (UM) without any issues, but now even as a part of the government, it is still prevented," he said.

He explained after discussing UiTM has agreed to hold the dialogue after this month, and other panellists could not attend.

"I support it and I agree. However, I want to stress that the student’s issues are still ongoing.

"We need to fight for our students. They need our support for their voices," he stated.
