ISKANDAR PUTERI - Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has denied the claims that Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh's appointment as the new Melaka chief minister did not fulfill the promises in the manifesto during Melaka state elections in 2021.

The Pontian MP said those claims were not true, but instead Barisan Nasional (BN) had fulfilled the promise when they agreed to appoint Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali as chief minister from November 2021.

"It was indeed Sulaiman who was agreed on in the manifesto, but it was not mentioned how long he would be the chief minister.

"Sulaiman did become Melaka chief minister so in my opinion, this means we didn't break the manifesto," he said.

Ahmad, who is also Deputy Finance Minister 1 said this in a press conference after his working visit to the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Sultan Abu Bakar Complex, here, today.

Yesterday, a portal reported Rembia assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis said BN had broke the party's promise during Melaka state elections following Ab Rauf's appointment.

The Umno representative claimed that the coalition promised that if they won the state elections, Sulaiman will be the state chief minister candidate and would remain so until the end of term.

Muhammad Jaliani, who was a former state executive committee chairman during Sulaiman's administration said he will not support Ab Rauf as the new Melaka chief minister.

Meanwhile, Ahmad said a new chief minister was appointed because the incumbent was suffering health problems.

"The appointment is because he could not continue his service due to health factors. So we accept his reason," he said.
