ALOR SETAR - Kedah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said that Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have strategised their action plans ahead of the upcoming state election.

He said support from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has given them confidence in winning the state election.

"We are not banana trees; we also have our own calculations and strategies. We have tactics and data that will be used during the state election later.

"We know which areas have a large number of Malay voters, and from this data, we can estimate and plan our strategies," he said in a press conference today.

He said this in response to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's claim that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) was able to win up to 33 out of the 36 state legislative assembly seats in the Kedah state election.

Earlier, Mahdzir and Kedah PH chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar had attended the BN-PH joint meeting, which saw both parties officially agreeing to form the Kedah Unity Leadership Council.

Also present were Kedah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim; PKR state leadership council (MPN) deputy chairman Nor Azrina Surip and Kedah DAP chairman Tan Kok Yew.

Mahdzir said the state election was the best platform for the people of Kedah to change the state government's administration to align with the leadership in Putrajaya.

"We don't blame the people during the 15th General Election (GE15), as it was a race between BN, PN, and PH to form a government.

"At last, BN and PH had formed a Unity Government at the central level.

"This means Kedah is currently considered an opposition to Putrajaya, both can work together, but it's better if Putrajaya and Alor Setar are under the same government," he said.

Meanwhile, Mahfuz said PH had no problem in negotiating with BN and the process had gone smoothly.

"Pas is the one being difficult when we were negotiating with Umno before, when we didn't have any problems. I first met Tok Det (Mahdzir) at his house to discuss basic matters, followed by today's meeting, and next we have a convention and seat negotiations after this.

"After that, we can see how many seats PH and BN can win. I am confident that the Unity Government can take over Kedah. Kedah Madani will follow after Malaysia Madani," said Mahfuz.
