'It's up to Rais to lodge a report' - Melaka CM

MELAKA - Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh leaves it completely to the state Housing, Local Government Drainage, Climate Change, and Disaster Management senior exco Datuk Rais Yasin to take appropriate steps to free himself from allegations linking him to the sex bribery scandal.

Ab Rauf said Rais was not forced or instructed to lodge a police report or otherwise.

He also said he had experienced a similar situation when he was Melaka State Legislative Assembly Speaker before.

"I have experienced it before when I was Speaker. Let's not forget how similar the agenda and the actor are.

"I don't want to think about it as I have to think about promoting Melaka, ways to develop the state, and personal matters, which I don't need to mention," he said.

He said this to reporters after officiating the Melaka International Celebrity Visit at Banda Hilir, here, today.

Commenting further, the Tanjung Bidara assemblyman said the issue of the corruption scandal does not tarnish nor damage the state government's image, as the allegation only came from social media targeting to destroy the image of an individual or a leader.

He said it was too early for any individual to come to a conclusion over an issue that hasn't been proven true.

"This is one of the agendas of those who have yet to move on, now shifted to a new direction of politics.

On Friday, Sinar reported that former Melaka Umno deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad said that Rais should lodge a police report to clear his name and Umno.

He said that if it is true that he did not commit the alleged act, he should have the courage to come forward and lodge a police report.
