ALOR SETAR - Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi said the Unity Government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be in power until the 16th General Election (GE16).

He assured that as long as he holds the positions of Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman and Umno president, all 30 BN MPs will continue to support Anwar, who is also a Tambun MP.

The Bagan Datok MP also admitted that the task of defending the current government is one of the challenges faced by the coalition parties that form the Unity government in the first six months after GE15.

However, he explained that the combination formed between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) is the best, even though he was previously 'allergic' to the party, which is in light blue.

"Today's government is not without challenges; there are some, including reports that 15 BN MPs want to resign and give way to by-elections.

"I don't want to go against Allah SWT's law, but InshaAllah, as BN Chairman and Umno President, I will stand together with all BN MPs, and they will continue to support Anwar (as Prime Minister)," Zahid said.

He said this while addressing the Himpunan Madani Kedah at Dataran Stargate, here, on Friday night.

Earlier at the same event, PH secretary general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Unity government under Anwar's leadership is stable, intact, and functioning and will continue to govern this country.
