RAUB - In an attempt to avoid a pig that was crossing the road, a man suffered injuries after his van skidded and crashed into an electric pole at 343KM of Jalan Kuala Lumpur heading towards Kota Bharu near Simpang Sungai Pasu, here, today.

Raub district police chief Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said in the incident that happened at about 6.30am, the Nissan Urban van was travelling from Kelantan to Kuala Lumpur.

Initial investigation found that the driver was on his way to pick up pilgrims who had arrived from performing Umrah at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

"During the incident, a pig had suddenly crossed to the right side of the road, causing the van to skid to the left side and hit a TNB electric pole to avoid the animal. As a result, the van overturned in the middle of the road.

"The 32-year-old victim was driving alone and only suffered minor head injuries and damages to the vehicle," he said in a statement today.

He said the case is being investigated under the Traffic Road Rules (Rule 10 LN 166/59).
