SHAH ALAM - Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil claims that the movement to topple the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was Perikatan Nasional's (PN) desperate attempt to escape from prosecution in court.

He claimed that the opposition’s obsession to topple the government was only to save PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and those involved from being prosecuted and imprisoned.

He said the leaders who have been charged in court must be responsible for what they allegedly did while administrating the country.

“I know you are desperate to change the government because you want to run away from being charged in court and to save Muhyiddin and yourselves from prosecution and imprisonment.

“My advice is to face the court process and answer to the charged before the judge. Many Umno leaders have gone through this process and you are not an exception.

“You must be responsible. None of you are exempted from the (court) process,” he said in a Facebook post, today.

On Friday, it was reported that Anwar said any conspiracy to topple the unity government will not succeed even though the party claimed to have gained sufficient statutory declarations (SD) to form a new government.

He also expressed confidence that the unity government will remain until the end of the term and told PN that if it had sufficient majority, they can bring it up during the next Dewan Rakyat session.

Isham advised PN leaders to bring and show the SD in Parliament and the palace to prove that they have support.

He felt that the unity government formed in December, last year, will not declare a state of emergency as done by former prime minister Muhyiddin after losing support.

“I urge PN leaders and its members to focus on becoming an opposition with quality and leave it to the government to perform its duties to stabilise the economy as each backdoor government change will affect the political stability and stunt the economical growth. The people will also be affected.” he said.
