6-year-old learns driving skills from Youtube

LANGKAWI - The six-year-old boy who drove a car for avout 2.5 kilometres before crashing at Jalan Bukit Tangga, Simpang Kenyum, near the area, last Tuesday, allegedly learned how to drive by watching YouTube videos.

Langkawi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari said the child claimed to know how to drive by watching Youtube videos and observing his father.

Shariman said no driving simulator was found at the child's home, indicating that he did not have access to a simulated driving practice tool.

"In regards to the viral video claiming that the boy practicing driving using a simulator at home, the police did not find any simulator at his house," he said in a statement today.

He added that the police had recorded the parent's statement.

"Statements from five other individuals who were witness to the accident were also recorded to assist in the investigation.

"They comprised of three witnesses at the scene of incident, the child's grandfather and a policeman who had arrived at the scene of incident," he said.

Shariman said that the child would also be referred to the Child Interview Centre (CIC) at Kedah Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) to provide a more comprehensive statement.

The investigation paper that is almost completed will be forwarded to the Alor Setar Johor State Prosecution Director once the police receive the medical reports from the hospital.

During the incident, the six-year-old boy sustained a chin injury while his younger brother remained unharmed.
