SHAH ALAM - Corruption Busters have urged for the police to be 'cleansed' following the disclosure that some district police chiefs in Kuala Lumpur were unhappy with Bukit Aman's action against online gambling premises in their jurisdiction.

Selangor Chairman Corruption Busters for Selangor, Federal Territory, and Putrajaya, Professor Dr Hamdan Daniel M. Sharib said there is a need for immediate action to ensure ties with gambling premises are severed.

He said this needs to be implemented immediately as there is a possibility that some individuals were accepting bribes.

"Strong action must be taken, including the dismissal of those involved. When there are severe consequences, it serves as a warning to those involved so that they no longer get involved with this gambling syndicate," he told Sinar.

Earlier, the Director of the Special Crime Investigation Department (JSJ) in Bukit Aman, Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said no more warnings would be given to district police chiefs who fail to address gambling activities in their respective areas.

Commenting further, Hamdan said it is crucial for officer to fulfill their assigned duties.

"The existing laws and acts need to be strengthened so that activities that violate the law can be brought before the court, regardless of rank or position," he said.

Meanwhile, the Association of Malaysian Women's Aspirations (Aswa) chairperson Wan Azliana Wan Adnan described Ayob Khan's warning as positive.

"This is a reminder from the leader, and it is good to give warnings from time to time," she said.

Wan Azliana expressed her concers over police personnel who were not willing to disrupt gambling centres as they were 'paid' by syndicates.

"If this is true, MACC together with the police must investigate the involved officers. Strong action must be taken against officers who accept bribes, and those who give bribes should also be brought to court to curb corruption and gambling activities," she added.
