SHAH ALAM - The remains of Malaysian Everest 2023 (ME 2023) climber, Lieutenant Colonel (PA) Awang Askandar Ampuan Yaacub, 56, arrived safely at camp three at 7am Nepal time, on Wednesday.

The head of ME 2023, Azim Afif Ishak said the body was brought down with the help of six mountain guides manually using a stretcher from camp four.

He said, for now, the rescue team is resting for a while after struggling for nine hours taking turns carrying the body, before continuing the journey to camp two.

"The weather at the moment is not good, its windy and cloudy with a temperature of around 23 degrees Celsius.

"We expect the journey from camp three to camp two to take two hours, but it depends on the weather," he said in a statement.

Azim said, upon arriving at camp two, the remains will be flown by helicopter to Everest Base Camp (EBC) and then taken to a hospital in Kathmandu.

He explained that if the weather conditions are good, the body is expected to be flown to Kathmandu at 1 pm Nepal time.
