KUALA LUMPUR - In a lighthearted tone, Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki jokingly extended an 'invitation' to those who were recently expelled from the party to join Umno at the upcoming 2023 Annual General Assembly (PAU), set to commence on June 7.

"We have never barred them from entering the Merdeka Hall at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL). Naturally, anyone can attend among the representatives.

"They are welcome to come to the Merdeka Hall, where we have set up 82 sales carnival booths. If they wish to purchase traditional Malay sarong, 'sampin,' or rediscover themselves within Umno, they can do so," he said in a press conference at the Dato' Onn Tower WTCKL here on Friday.

He said this when asked whether those who were sacked from Umno would be invited to attend the PAU.

Among those who were recently expelled were former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Umno Tanjong Karang division chief Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Umno has also suspended the memberships of several other leaders, including former vice president Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein and former Information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan, for six years.

These actions were taken against the individuals for breaching party discipline, as stipulated in the Umno constitution, due to their misconduct during the 15th general election (GE15). - AWANI
