SELAYANG - A visually impaired student from St John Institution, Muhammad Faris Mohd Firdaus, obtained outstanding results with an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.92 in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM).

He was awarded Best Student of the Blind Category in all of Malaysia.

Faris said he faced difficulties in the learning process as he had to depend on assistance to access the limited materials.

He said that despite being a major challenge, he did not give up on a better future.

"I would usually ask for help from my smart friends as well as teachers in the school to explain it along with visual information.

"Despite facing difficulties, I never gave up. If I did, it would be a major failure for me," he told Sinar when met at the STPM Best Student Award Presentation on Thursday.

Meanwhile, B40 Best Student Category winner Nur Atikah Zailan, with a GPA of 4.00, said her success was influenced by her father, who always reminded her not to allow their financial status to be a barrier to her success in her studies.

The Sabah SMK Beaufort student said she spends time after Isyak prayers until the early mornings on the weekends to study.
