KUALA LUMPUR - The Selangor state government aims to upgrade the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council’s (MPAJ) status to city status within three years.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government will ensure that the council’s revenue and income are increased to ensure that it could manage a city in the future.

"Based on its facilities and amenities, Ampang Jaya actually deserves to be a city but we need to ensure that the council has adequate revenue and is capable of managing a city,” he said in a speech after the Ampang Jaya Night Run 2023 flag off near here tonight.

He added that the state government was drafting a specific plan to ensure sustainable development in Ampang Jaya, especially areas bordering Kuala Lumpur to ensure that the quality of both localities was not too far apart, even though Ampang Jaya was still considered a town.

A total of 2,100 runners took part in the Ampang Jaya Night Run 2023 tonight, held in conjunction with the 31st anniversary of MPAJ this July 1 - BERNAMA
