KEPALA BATAS - Three former Penang Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblymen who previously won in the 14th general election (GE14) are being fielded to defend their seats for the upcoming state election.

They consisted of the Penaga state seat incumbent Mohd Yusni Mat Piah from Pas, Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq (Bertam) and Zulkifli Ibrahim (Sungai Acheh) both from Bersatu.

The announcement was made by Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee during a ceremony held at the Penang Pas Headquarters in Pongsu Seribu, here on Wednesday.

Also present were Pas vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad and Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.

Others who were named as candidates for the Penang state election were Penang Pas commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff who would contest in the Sungai Dua state assembly, Gerakan deputy president and Penang Gerakan chairman Oh Tong Keong who will contest in the Pantai Jerejak state assembly and Penang Bersatu state leadership council chief Zulkifli Bakar who will be contesting in the Penanti state assembly.

The list distributed to the media showed that Lau will be contesting in the Bayan Lepas state seat, but Kiandee did not mention the details during the announcement.
