SHAH ALAM - PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abd Halim and Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari have accepted the challenge from the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) President Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to debate on the direction of the youth in the country.

However, Adam Adli, who is also the Deputy Youth and Sports Minister said that the event should be held after the completion of the state elections.

According to him, at this time, the opportunity should be given to the new candidates competing in the state election so that they can get more exposure and attention from the media and the people.

"Thank you for the invitation. Although it may seem odd for a debate to be held between two government Members of Parliament, accompanied by an opposition Member of Parliament, I think it is interesting and can be a platform to unravel many issues for clarity.

"Even so, I believe there are others who need this platform more at the moment. I suggest that during the election season, we first give the debate opportunity to our new candidates.

"Focus on their voices. Let them have more exposure compared to us who have had the advantage of media and public attention all this time. This is the time to highlight them. Our discussion can take place after the state poll is over. Insha-Allah... We can set the parameters later," he said on Friday.

On Thursday, Syed Saddiq invited the top youth leaders representing Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN), Adam Adli, and PN, Fadhli, to hold a debate on the direction of the youth.

Syed Saddiq clearly stated that the debate was an effort to respond to the proposal to elevate political ideas and solutions so that the people can assess the direction and offers of each party in the upcoming state election on Aug 12.

Meanwhile, Fadhli stated that he was in communication with Syed Saddiq to determine a suitable time and date for the debate.

"I have no problem welcoming this proposal. For now, I am in communication with Syed Saddiq's team to determine a mutually agreeable time and date.

"Debates are a healthy culture in our society. For me, there is no problem, and the discussion (debate) can take place anytime. Not just during the election period," he told Sinar.
