Police investigates viral post claiming early voters given RM200

KUALA TERENGGANU - Terengganu police received a report on a viral post claiming that a Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate contesting in the State Election has given RM200 to early voters to vote for the candidate.

Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mazli Mazlan said the report was lodged at Chukai Police Station, today.

"Based on the report, the complainant found that there was a viral post when browsing the Facebook page that slandered the Chukai BN State seat candidate to have given RM200 to a police to vote for the candidate.

"The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988," he said in a statement today.

Additionally, he said, the police also received three more reports on the same day on act of bribery by competing candidates, leaflets defaming candidate's image and public talks without a permit.

"The report is investigated under Section 10 of the Election Act 1954, Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 24B of the Election Offences Act 1954," he said.

Meanwhile, he said, a public talk was held without obtaining a permit yesterday.

Overall, the police received 88 applications and from that, 86 applications were approved yesterday. Out of that, 38 applications were from BN, 46 applications from Perikatan Nasional (PN) and one application each by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and (Muda), he said.

In the same development, Mazli said political campaigning was turning vigorous in all areas, especially involving PN and BN.

Therefore, he said, the contesting parties were reminded to campaign prudently and not to make any provocations that could affect public safety and order.
