Mother, lover charged with killing nine-year-old son

TAIPING - A mother and her boyfriend were hauled to the Taiping magistrate's court today on a charge of killing a nine-year-old boy last month.
The accused, Siti Farina Mohamed Basharol Ariffin, 36, and her boyfriend Izuhaizad Ismail, 37, were charged with committing the offence at a house in Taman Panglima Assam Kumbang, here, between 10.30am on July 29, and 10.52am the next day.
They were accused of murdering Muhammad Hasiffaidhi Mohamad Jeffry.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries a death penalty, if convicted or an imprisonment of up to 40 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the rotan.
However, no plea was recorded from both accused after the charge was read to them.
Magistrate Nur Atiqah Sapari then fixed Oct 16 for the mention pending the forensics, chemical, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and autopsy reports.
The prosecution was handled by the deputy public prosecutor Siti Nur Amalina Harun while the two accused were not represented.
On July 31, it was reported that a nine-year-old boy was found dead with several bruises on his body believed to be the result of abuse at a house in Assam Kumbang here.
