SHAH ALAM - The Election Commission (EC) reminds voters not to use their phones in the polling centres and not to present their identification card (MyKad) to other parties during the voting process for the state elections and Kuala Terengganu By-Election on Saturday.

EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said the usage of phones in polling centres (channels) were not allowed.

He said as a reminder, a notice or poster prohibiting the use of phones will be placed outside of the voting area.

“EC had set that voters carrying their phones to polling centres must place their phones in a designated area before receiving the ballot papers and to take the device after voting.

“Voters are also reminded to always care for the secrecy of their votes and not record the postal ballot papers and share it on social media,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Ikmalrudin said the implementation of the new voting procedures can be referred through the 10-Step Voting Procedure poster explaining the process.

He said voters were advised not to present their MyKad to other parties except for the election officers.

“Voters are reminded to carry their MyKad and personal polling details as well and present it to the First Polling Clerk (KP1) at the channel.

“The personal voter information would ease the KP1 to perform checks on the name as well as aid in the polling process,” he added.

He said voters are advised to check their polling information to identify the polling centre, polling channel and their turn.

He explained the checks could be done online at https://mysprsemak.spr.gov.my or through calls to these numbers 03-8892 7018/7218/7124 or through the MySPR Semak application.

“The EC would like to remind employers to allow their staff suitable time off to vote for the elections, as how it is allocated under the Election Offences Act 1954,” he said.
