KUALA TERENGGANU - Media’s efforts to obtain reactions from Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders following the severe defeat in this state election (PRN) have failed as no leaders from the party appeared at the Umno Operations Room here last night.

Media personnel arrived at the operations room located in the Umno Terengganu Building as early as 7pm to follow the vote counting developments and were informed that there was a possibility of a press conference to be held by party leaders.

However, even before the vote-counting process involving all Terengganu State Legislative Assembly seats was completed, media personnel were asked to leave the premises because no press conference would be conducted.

In the Terengganu state election, Pas swept all 32 state assembly seats, thereby extinguishing BN’s hopes of returning to govern the state.

Pas also managed to retain victory in the Terengganu Parliamentary by-Election, which was held simultaneously with this state election.

In the past 14th General Election, BN succeeded in winning 10 seats, namely state assembly Kijal, Seberang Takir, Langkap, Kuala Besut, Hulu Besut, Telemung, Batu Rakit, Bukit Besi, Permaisuri, and Jertih.

Umno Deputy Chairman, Datuk Nik Dir Nik Wan Ku, announced last Thursday that the BN and PH coalition aimed to capture 19 state assembly seats in this state election to form a new government.
