KOTA BHARU - Kota Lama assemblyman Dr Hafidzah Mustakim, who created history when she was elected as the first representative of Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Kelantan in the state election on Saturday, has identified the problems of the residents in the area that need to be resolved.

She said that for the past 33 years, the residents of the Kota Lama constituency have had to face clean water supply issues, drainage system, cleanliness, business environment, employment opportunities and housing problems because the state government failed to address them.

"I am confident that with the solid help and support from the party leadership, including at the federal level, we will be able to solve the issues the people are facing, especially the residents of Kota Lama.

"This is not empty talk because we (Kelantan) received a large allocation from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, including to deal with the water problem. Enough talking about problems, we are now talking about solutions that will be brought to the state of Kelantan," she said at a press conference at the Kelantan Amanah office, here today.

In the state polls, the Kelantan PH Wanita (women's) wing deputy chief won with a slim majority of 202 votes after obtaining 9,691 votes to defeat Pas candidate Datuk Zamri Ismail who obtained 9,489 votes, Tan Boon Kian from Parti Rakyat Malaysia (126) and Independent candidate, Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary (85 votes).

Dr Hafidzah added that she would also focus on improving infrastructure including more comfortable markets, sports infrastructure, family-friendly parks and also education.

When asked about her role in the state assembly, Dr Hafidzah said that as the opposition she would voice the people's problems through the Rahmah political culture as demonstrated by the PH leadership.

"To be effective, there is no need to speak rudely and condescendingly.
