KOTA KINABALU - The Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) has called on Sabah state assembly Speaker to suspend Tungku assemblyman Assaffal P Alian, following his statement over the Ambalat Bloc.

He had claimed that the federal government has handed over the Ambalat block in the Sulawesi Sea to Indonesia

The Chairman of G57, Datuk Zulkarnain Mahda said police report has been lodged to clear both the names of the Sabah state government and the federal government, claiming that Assaffal's allegations are baseless and malicious.

"We will extend this report to the Sabah state assembly Speaker (Datuk Seri Kadzim M Yahya) to request Tungku assemblyman publicly apologise to the government for intentionally causing suspicion and concern among the people of Sabah.

"Many lives have actually been sacrificed to defend Sabah. Therefore, this statement has deeply affected the feelings of many parties,"he told reporters after a police report was lodged at the Karamunsing police station here, today.

Zulkarnain further said although assemblymen are protected by law on statements made in assembly, they are lodging a police report to take

legal action against Tungku assemblyman for alleged false claims.

Prior to this, Assaffal, in his speech during a recent Sabah state seating said Ambalat had been handed over to Indonesia and this information was spread through a video recording

However, Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin clarified that the agreement signed between Malaysia and Indonesia only involves the territorial waters and does not include the area referred to as Ambalat or exceeding 200 nautical miles, which is designated as the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
